I came across this fucking method a while ago on some forums and social media, and a lot of guys swear by it (Jester Patel). But let’s be honest: thumb pulling is one of the biggest cases of cope in the looksmaxxing space. It feels productive, but it doesn’t do what people think it does. Even Oscar Patel, better known as Jester Patel, has talked about how people cling to techniques that make them feel like they’re improving, even when nothing is actually happening.
People claim thumb pulling is supposed to widen your palate, move your maxilla, or “release cranial tension”. They reference cranial osteopathy and craniosacral therapy, saying the skull has rhythmic micro‑movements and that you can influence them with pressure from your thumb.

The problem is simple: none of this creates structural change. There’s no evidence that pressing your thumb against your palate can expand bone, shift the maxilla, or change facial structure. What thumb pulling actually does is release soft‑tissue tension. That’s it. It feels good, but it doesn’t remodel bone. If you think you’re expanding your palate with your thumb, you’re basically larping as an orthodontic device.
And about the “time gain” thing: Jester Patel once said that thumb pulling gives you time gain because it supposedly speeds up your progress. That is pure cope. There is no time gain. There is no acceleration. There is no structural change happening. It’s just a comforting idea that makes you feel like you’re ahead when you’re not.
You don’t need anything for thumb pulling. Just your thumb and your palate. And that’s exactly why it’s cope. Real palatal expansion requires consistent mechanical force over weeks or months. Expanders use metal screws. Orthodontists use calibrated pressure. Thumb pulling uses… your thumb. It’s not enough force to move bone, and it never will be.

Most people who thumb pull do it multiple times a day. A few minutes in the morning, a few minutes after school or work, a few minutes before bed. And sure, it might reduce tension in your mouth or jaw. It might make your palate feel “looser” for a moment. But that’s temporary. It’s soft tissue, not bone. If you want real change, you need consistent tongue posture, proper mewing, or an actual orthodontic device. Thumb pulling is just a ritual that feels productive.
People track their “progress” with photos, or angles(they are angle FRAUDING). But nothing structural is changing. You’re not expanding your palate. You’re not lifting your maxilla. You’re not improving your canthal tilt. You’re just convincing yourself that a massage technique is remodeling bone. That’s why thumb pulling is cope. It gives you the illusion of progress without any real anatomical change.
If you want actual results, stick to things that work: plier pulling, proper tongue posture, nasal breathing, posture correction, chewing, and if needed, real orthodontics
They was all ngas!
